CHELTENHAM, England — In an exciting turn of events at Cheltenham on Saturday, two brothers found themselves in a rare situation during a horse race, both finishing in a dead heat.
James Bowen rode Quantock Hills while his brother Sean Bowen was on board Teriferma, and their horses crossed the finish line simultaneously in the Juvenile Hurdle event.
This remarkable occurrence marked the first dead heat at Cheltenham in the past eight years, making it a memorable day for the Bowen family.
James, who is 22 years old, expressed his joy, stating, “To share it with my brother, it’s probably better than anyone else.”
His older brother, Sean, 27, echoed this sentiment during an interview with Racing TV, describing the experience as unique and special, particularly at such a prestigious venue.
Jack Jones, the trainer of Teriferma, reflected on the unusual outcome, admitting, “It’s a bit of a strange feeling having a dead heat, but I suppose it’s a winner, isn’t it?”
The day will surely be remembered by both the athletes and the spectators, highlighting the close bonds that can occur in competitive sports.
