COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cotie McMahon was the standout performer with 29 points, while Ajae Petty contributed significantly with 19 points and 12 rebounds, leading No. 11 Ohio State to a dominating 87-39 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday.

The Buckeyes (10-0) came out strong, scoring the first 12 points of the matchup. By the end of the first quarter, they had built a lead of 23-14, with McMahon accounting for seven of those points.

Youngstown State struggled to find their rhythm, managing to hit their first field goal just 30 seconds into the second quarter. However, during a stretch in which Ohio State scored 25 unanswered points, the Penguins (6-5) fell behind dramatically. The Buckeyes shot 10 of 18 in the second period, while their defense stifled Youngstown by limiting them to just 1-of-8 shooting, resulting in the Penguins turning the ball over 11 times, and leading to a commanding 52-18 lead at halftime.

Chance Gray added 12 points for Ohio State, which showcased their long-range shooting by hitting 7 of 15 attempts from beyond the arc. The team also took full advantage of Youngstown State’s turnovers, scoring 45 points off the 34 giveaways and securing 15 offensive rebounds. Notably, Taylor Thierry had a career-high with seven steals, and Elsa Lemmila made a significant impact on the defensive end by blocking four shots.

On the other side, Malia Magestro was the top scorer for the Penguins with eight points. Unfortunately, Youngstown State struggled with their shooting, converting only 3 of 20 attempts from three-point range and finishing with a mere 33% shooting overall.

Ohio State, now 1-0 in Big Ten Conference play, will next host Grand Valley State on Tuesday afternoon before continuing with their conference schedule against Stanford on Friday.
