WREXHAM, Wales — Ryan Reynolds delighted the residents of Wrexham with an early Christmas gesture during his recent visit to northern Wales, and he brought several Hollywood friends along with him.
During a match on Saturday, Reynolds, who co-owns the local soccer team alongside Rob McElhenney, witnessed the team end in a 2-2 draw against Cambridge. Accompanying him were actor and producer Channing Tatum, who has collaborated with Reynolds in the latest “Deadpool and Wolverine” film, as well as Brandon Sklenar, who starred with Reynolds’ spouse, Blake Lively, in the romantic film “It Ends With Us.” Additionally, Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead vocalist of Green Day, was also present at the game.
The night before, Reynolds visited a local bar in Wrexham’s city center, where he announced his plan to purchase a round of drinks for everyone present. He humorously suggested that the pub might need to bring in another hundred patrons to share in his generosity.
In a clip that circulated on social media, Reynolds engaged with the crowd from behind the microphone, expressing his holiday wishes: “If I don’t come visit each and every one of you tonight in your homes, I just want to say happy holidays.” He added that he would not linger too long as he wanted to cherish his “night off” from parenting duties.
Since acquiring the team in 2021, Reynolds and McElhenney have played a significant role in the club’s transformation, guiding it from the fifth tier of English soccer to newfound fame. Their ascent to notoriety has been further amplified by a docuseries titled “Welcome to Wrexham.” Following the draw against Cambridge, the team found itself in third place in League One, just two points shy of the top spot.
