Doug Meacham has made his way back to Oklahoma State University, reuniting with former teammate Mike Gundy as the new offensive coordinator, as announced by the university on Friday.
Meacham, who was an offensive lineman for the Cowboys from 1983 to 1987, previously held coaching positions focusing on tight ends and inside receivers within the Oklahoma State coaching staff from 2005 until 2012.
His most recent role was as the offensive coordinator at TCU in 2021, where he remained part of the coaching staff through the current season. Meacham was part of the TCU team that made it to the national championship game after the 2022 season. Notably, during his first tenure as offensive coordinator in 2014, he was recognized as a finalist for the Broyles Award, signifying the nation’s top assistant coach.
In addition to his time at TCU, Meacham has experience as an offensive coordinator at several colleges, including Kansas, Houston, Samford, Henderson State, Jacksonville State, and Georgia Military. He has also coached in the XFL with the St. Louis BattleHawks.
This hiring comes amidst a series of changes at Oklahoma State, which is looking to recover from a challenging 3-9 season that halted the school’s 18-year bowl game streak under the leadership of coach Mike Gundy.
Meacham is stepping in for Kasey Dunn, who previously held the offensive coordinator position. Earlier this week, the university appointed Todd Grantham, a former assistant with the New Orleans Saints, as the new defensive coordinator, taking over from Bryan Nardo.
Both new coaches will join Gundy, who has recently accepted a restructured contract after experiencing the most difficult season in his two-decade tenure at the university.
