Fiorentina’s Moise Kean sets out to excel in scoring and music with debut album launch

Fiorentina striker Moise Kean is making waves in both the football and music worlds this season. While he is experiencing the most successful period of his career in Italy, he has also taken the time to create his debut album, “Chosen,” which is set to be released this coming Monday.

Kean expressed his passion for music, stating, “Some say I think too much about music, but if God gives you the chance to have a talent, why not show it? Making music relaxes me. After training, I recover by writing in my studio. Many people still don’t understand the value that music brings.” His connection to music has been a constant presence throughout his journey in soccer.

At just 24, Kean, who named his son after the legendary Bob Marley, appears to effectively juggle his two main passions—music and soccer. When Fiorentina acquired him from Juventus in July for approximately 13 million euros ($13.7 million), there were doubts about the decision since Kean did not score any goals the previous season. However, those concerns are fading as he has netted 13 goals for Fiorentina so far, with nine coming in Serie A, which places him third in the scoring list, trailing Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui and Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram.

His contribution has been vital to Fiorentina’s strong start to the season, as they are currently level on points with third-placed Inter, and just three points away from league leaders Napoli, despite playing a game less due to a match suspension caused by midfielder Edoardo Bove’s medical emergency. Fiorentina has managed to secure eight consecutive wins in the league, and a victory against Bologna on Sunday would break the club’s record set back in 1960.

Under the guidance of young head coach Raffaele Palladino, who joined from Monza in June, Kean has thrived in an attacking setup that contrasts with the more defensive strategies of former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri. “I have a good relationship with the coach,” Kean commented. “He’s young, was a forward himself, and has clear expectations of me. He is ambitious and relishes the challenges we face. Our team is young and full of talent, and I believe we will succeed.”

Despite his youth, Kean has gone through significant highs and lows since his debut as a teenager back in 2016. Initially, he became the first player born in the year 2000 to score in one of Europe’s top five leagues, compete in the Champions League, and feature in Serie A, debuting for Juventus at just 16.

Kean faced challenges during his stint in the Premier League with Everton, but he found some success at Paris Saint-Germain before making his return to Juventus in 2021. However, his time back in Turin saw him struggle, managing just 22 goals and three assists over 123 appearances.

Reflecting on his journey, he mentioned, “I’ve had a lot of difficult phases, along with great moments, but mostly tough ones. The last one involved an injury that greatly impacted my previous season, preventing me from performing at my best. It was a challenging time. I have immense faith in God. I understood that my struggles would serve as lessons. I was tested, and even though it was painful, I accepted it. Now, being in Florence feels right. The love from everyone around me is incredible.”

His renewed form has also led to a call-up for the Italian national team, where he scored his first goal in three years during a match against Israel in September. Overall, he has registered five goals in 19 caps for Italy. “The center forward role is crucial for achieving results,” commented Italy’s coach Luciano Spalletti. “Kean is very effective in the box and has shown significant progress and maturity in his game.”
