ISLAMABAD — Imad Wasim has announced his decision to retire from international cricket, just six months after he made a return to the sport, participating in the T20 World Cup.
On Friday, he took to X to share his thoughts, stating, “After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket. Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honour of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable.”
The 35-year-old all-rounder made his international debut against Zimbabwe in 2015, during which he played a total of 75 T20 internationals. Over his T20 career, he accumulated 554 runs and captured 73 wickets as a left-arm spinner. In addition, he featured in 55 One Day Internationals (ODIs), during which he took 44 wickets and scored 986 runs.
Wasim initially stepped away from international cricket in November 2023 when he was not selected due to concerns about his fitness. However, he later opted to return for the T20 World Cup held in June, where Pakistan faced disappointment, exiting the tournament early after losses to their rivals, India and the United States, in the group stage.
During the World Cup, Wasim faced challenges, concluding the tournament with just three wickets from three appearances and only managing to score 19 runs.
Despite his retirement from international play, Wasim expressed his intention to engage in domestic and franchise cricket across the globe. He stated, “While this chapter comes to an end, I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket through domestic and franchise cricket, and I hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways. Thank you for everything. Pakistan.”
