BLACKSBURG, Va. — In a much-needed victory, Ben Hammond delivered an impressive performance, achieving a personal best of 17 points without missing a shot, as Virginia Tech decisively defeated North Carolina A&T with a score of 95-67 on Thursday night. This victory marked the end of a challenging six-game losing streak for the Hokies.
The Hokies’ scoring output of 95 points was their highest since netting 98 points against Wofford on November 19, 2023. Hammond sparked the team with his flawless shooting, going 6-for-6 from the field, which included three successful 3-point attempts. In addition to his scoring, he contributed four assists and five steals, leading a bench that collectively scored 55 points. Fellow reserves Rodney Brown Jr. and Patrick Wessler each contributed 13 points, while Mylyjael Poteat scored 11 points in the first half, helping the Hokies build a substantial 20-point lead. Toibu Lawal added 10 points to the mix, and the team finished with an efficient shooting percentage of 50%.
For the Aggies, Landon Glasper was notably effective, draining five 3-pointers to accumulate 19 points, although the team faced their fifth straight defeat while shooting 38% overall. Ryan Forrest and Jahnathan Lamothe each added 14 points; Lamothe also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Nikolaos Chitikoudis chipped in with 13 points.
North Carolina A&T began the second half strong with a 7-2 run, but the Hokies countered with an impressive 18-2 run, which included two 3-pointers from Brown, allowing them to stretch their lead to as much as 72-43. They eventually led by as many as 31 points late in the game.
Virginia Tech showcased dominance in the first half, where they executed a 16-0 run by hitting 6 of their 7 shots, building their advantage to 26 points before heading into halftime with a 52-32 lead.
Looking ahead, North Carolina A&T will travel to Liberty for their next game on Saturday, while Virginia Tech will prepare to host Navy on Sunday.
