STOCKHOLM — Barcelona, the two-time reigning champions, secured the final quarterfinal position in the Women’s Champions League on Thursday with a decisive 3-0 victory over Hammarby in Stockholm.
Ewa Pajor was instrumental in the win, netting two goals in the first half from close range, while Aitana Bonmatí added a third goal just 10 minutes before the match concluded.
After starting their campaign with a 2-0 setback against Manchester City, Barcelona had a remarkable turnaround, scoring an impressive 23 goals and only allowing one in their next four matches.
Manchester City maintained their flawless performance by defeating St. Pölten 2-0, placing them firmly at the top of Group D with 15 points. Barcelona follows closely behind with 12 points and is set to face City again next Wednesday in their final group match.
In Group C, Arsenal kept their title hopes alive as Alessia Russo scored twice in a 3-1 victory over bottom-placed Vålerenga. The win maintained pressure on Bayern Munich, who are currently leading the group.
