Broncos and left tackle Garett Bolles finalize four-year deal to safeguard rookie QB Bo Nix

The Denver Broncos have bolstered their roster by signing left tackle Garett Bolles to a four-year contract extension. This move secures a key player to safeguard the young quarterback Bo Nix as he steps into his rookie season.

Garett Bolles has been with the Broncos since he was selected 20th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft from the University of Utah. With this season marking an important juncture, Bolles aims to help the Broncos make a playoff appearance for the first time since they captured Super Bowl 50 after the 2015 season.

Currently, the Broncos are sitting with an 8-5 record, placing them in the seventh and final playoff position in the AFC. This upcoming Sunday, they have a significant opportunity to strengthen their playoff chances against the Colts, who have a 6-7 record.

Bolles’ performance has improved since his earlier days in the league, emerging as a reliable protector for the quarterback. In the 13 games so far this season, he has only permitted one sack and experienced 24 quarterback pressures. Notably, his quarterback pressure rate of 4.9 percent ranks as the second-lowest among tackles who have taken at least 200 pass-blocking snaps this season, according to NextGen Stats.

Meanwhile, Bo Nix has made a strong impact in his rookie year, leading all first-year players with 277 completions, 2,842 passing yards, 22 touchdowns on offense, and 17 touchdown passes.

After an impressive 2020 season, Bolles was recognized with second-team Associated Press All-Pro honors. He took to social media to express his gratitude, stating, “Broncos Country, it’s been a great 8 years! Thanks for everything! And … I’m not leaving. The show goes on!”

Since joining the league, Bolles has allowed only 36 sacks over more than 3,100 snaps, ranking him sixth-lowest among tackles.

With Bolles’ extension finalized, all five starters on the offensive line have their contracts secured for the upcoming season. Earlier this year, guard Quinn Meinerz also signed a four-year extension, while cornerback Patrick Surtain II and linebacker Jonathon Cooper received lucrative contract extensions of their own in September and November, respectively.
