IOWA CITY, Iowa — In a thrilling showdown at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes overcame No. 18 Iowa State with a remarkable comeback, securing a 75-69 victory in front of a packed crowd of 14,998 fans.

Lucy Olsen led the charge for Iowa, contributing 25 points, while Sydney Affolter added 16 points, and Hannah Stuelke scored 13 points along with nine rebounds. Despite shooting only 43% from the field compared to Iowa State’s 52%, the Hawkeyes capitalized on their opponent’s mistakes, converting 24 points off 21 turnovers. A staggering nine of those turnovers occurred in the pivotal fourth quarter, during which Iowa outscored the Cyclones 22-13.

On the other side, Iowa State’s Audi Crooks delivered an impressive performance with 31 points and 10 rebounds, and Addy Brown contributed 13 points. However, the Cyclones struggled with turnovers and free-throw accuracy, converting just 6 of 16 attempts from the charity stripe, compared to Iowa’s 15 of 25.

For the majority of the game, Iowa State maintained the lead for almost 33 minutes. However, the Hawkeyes utilized a strong defensive effort to ignite a 13-2 run in the final five minutes of the game. After a critical traveling violation called on Crooks, Aaliyah Guyton drained a crucial 3-pointer with just 45 seconds remaining, and Stuelke subsequently added two free throws, pushing Iowa’s lead to 10 points.

The Cyclones began the game with a three-point lead after the first quarter and matched the Hawkeyes point-for-point in the second and third quarters. At one point in the third, Iowa State had a commanding 10-point edge.

Earlier on the day of the game, Iowa State announced that junior guard Kenzi Hare would be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a persistent hip injury. Hare, who started eight games this season, averaged 8.3 points after joining the team from Marquette.

Looking ahead, Iowa State will host Eastern Illinois on Monday, while Iowa is set to travel to Michigan State on Sunday for their Big Ten opener, which will be crucial for both teams in the upcoming season.
