DOVER, Del. — In an exciting matchup on Wednesday night, the Delaware State Hornets triumphed over NJIT with a score of 71-59, largely due to the stellar performance of Robert Smith, who amassed 27 points.
Smith also played a key role on the boards, grabbing six rebounds to aid his team in securing the win.
In support of Smith, Martez Robinson contributed 10 points despite having a challenging shooting night, hitting just 2 of 9 attempts from the field. However, he was efficient at the charity stripe, making all six of his free throw attempts, and he also secured eight rebounds.
On the opposing side, Tim Moore Jr. commanded the Highlanders’ scoring efforts with 20 points. He also added seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to his stat line, showing his all-around ability.
NJIT had additional support from Tariq Francis, who contributed 13 points along with four assists and two steals, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Delaware State’s solid performance.
As the season progresses, both teams will look to build on their performances, with Delaware State improving to a 5-6 record while NJIT faced a setback to 2-10.
