WOLFSBURG, Germany — In an impressive display of offensive talent, substitute Sveindís Jónsdóttir scored four goals in the second half as Wolfsburg secured a dominant 6-1 victory over Roma, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Champions League.

Jónsdóttir entered the match in the 66th minute when Wolfsburg was leading 2-1, knowing that a victory by at least two goals was necessary to confirm their place in the knockout stage, with one group match still ahead. The Icelandic forward quickly made her impact felt, scoring just two minutes after coming on and completing her hat trick by the 89th minute. She capped off her remarkable performance by netting another goal during stoppage time.

The match began with Alexandra Popp putting Wolfsburg in front early on, but Roma equalized in the 56th minute thanks to a goal from Valentina Giacinti. However, it wasn’t long before Lineth Beerensteyn restored Wolfsburg’s lead, finding the back of the net nine minutes later, ensuring their progression in the tournament.

Currently, Wolfsburg holds the second position in Group A with a total of nine points from five matches, while the renowned eight-time champions Lyon have already secured the group’s top position after a commanding 6-0 victory over Galatasaray in Istanbul. Roma is in third place with six points, while Galatasaray remains at the bottom of the group with no points.

In Group B action, Chelsea continued their stellar performance by defeating Twente 6-1, maintaining an unbeaten record. Real Madrid also had a successful outing, securing a 3-0 win against Celtic, with Signe Bruun scoring two goals—one from distance in the first half and another with a header in the second half.

Both Chelsea and Madrid have already booked their spots in the quarterfinals, with Chelsea leading the group with 15 points, three points ahead of Madrid. The two teams are set to face off next week in Madrid to determine who will finish at the top of the group. Twente holds three points, while Celtic has yet to secure any points in the competition.
