WACO, Texas — In a strong showing, Norchad Omier contributed significantly with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five steals as the Baylor Bears triumphed over Norfolk State with a score of 94-69 on Wednesday.
The Bears solidified their lead by making their last three shots of the first half and the first five following the break, propelling themselves to a 54-40 advantage. This surge was highlighted by Omier’s layup, which came after a steal close to the Norfolk State basket, part of an 11-0 run for Baylor while the Spartans struggled to find their rhythm, missing five consecutive shots.
Baylor showcased their shooting ability with six players successfully hitting 3-pointers, including Omier, who netted his third of the season and the team’s eighth of the game, further widening the gap to 72-50.
Robert Wright III, starting in place of the injured Jeremy Roach, who is recovering from a concussion sustained during a game with No. 25 UConn, delivered a standout performance. He registered a total of 16 points against Norfolk State, achieving his first career double-double with a remarkable 13 assists, surpassing L.J. Rose’s previous record of 12 assists set in January 2013.
Both Josh Ojianwuna and VJ Edgecombe matched Wright’s scoring with 16 points each, contributing to the team’s overall success. For Norfolk State, Christian Ings led the scoring with 12 points, while teammates Brian Moore Jr. and Jaylani Darden added 11 points apiece.
Looking ahead, Baylor will enjoy a break from competition, gearing up to face Arlington Baptist on December 27. Norfolk State, on the other hand, will play again this Sunday against Northern Kentucky.
