ROME, Ga. — A tragic incident occurred when a driver lost their life as authorities were responding to a bomb threat at the residence of U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, according to official reports.
The local bomb squad officer was en route to the scene when a collision took place with another vehicle on Monday, as stated by Rome police in an announcement. Greene later identified the deceased as Tammie Pickelsimer.
The threat, delivered via email, alarmingly claimed there was a pipe bomb in Greene’s mailbox and made references to Palestine. It was sent directly to the assistant police chief, prompting the emergency response, Greene noted on her social media accounts. Investigators traced the email’s origin to a Russian internet address, she added.
This incident marks another example of a disturbing trend known as “swatting,” where false threats are used to provoke a large-scale police response to an individual’s home. Greene revealed that she has been targeted in this manner at least nine times.
“These violent political threats have fatal consequences,” Greene expressed on the platform X, condemning the act as “despicable.” She further stated, “The perpetrator of this crime has committed murder in our small community of Rome, Georgia.”
The police officer involved in the accident was driving his personal vehicle to assist the bomb squad during the emergency response. While he suffered injuries in the crash, details regarding the severity of those injuries were not available on Tuesday.
Expressing her grief and frustration, Greene said, “I’m sick to my stomach, but I’m also angry. This should have never happened, and I pray it never happens again.”
