DALLAS — On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers made a significant move by securing outfielder Michael Conforto with a one-year deal worth $17 million. In addition, they retained right-handed pitcher Blake Treinen through a two-year, $22 million contract.
Conforto, who will celebrate his 32nd birthday on March 1, logged a batting average of .237 alongside 20 home runs and 66 RBIs during his last season with the San Francisco Giants. This year marked the final season of his previous two-year contract worth $36 million.
Prior to his time with San Francisco, Conforto played for the New York Mets from 2015 to 2021, earning All-Star honors in 2017. After declining an $18.4 million offer from the Mets, he sat out the entire 2022 season while recuperating from right shoulder surgery. Over his nine seasons in Major League Baseball, he has maintained a career batting average of .251, with a total of 167 home runs and 520 RBIs.
As part of his new contract, Conforto will also receive an $8.5 million signing bonus, with $6.5 million due by January 15 and the remainder scheduled for December 1. His salary for the 2025 season will also be set at $8.5 million.
On the other hand, Treinen’s deal includes a $2.5 million signing bonus, with half of that amount payable by January 6 and the rest due by December 1. His agreement outlines base salaries of $6 million for the upcoming season and $11 million in 2026, as well as a commitment to donate 1% to charity.
Treinen, an All-Star in 2018 while playing for Oakland, faced significant challenges over the past two years. He pitched just five innings in 2022 and missed the entirety of the 2023 season while recovering from dual surgeries on his labrum and rotator cuff, which he underwent on November 11, 2022. He also suffered a lung bruise earlier this year when hit by a line drive but eventually made his season debut on May 5.
In the 2022 season, Treinen recorded a strong performance, going 7-3 and posting a 1.93 ERA over 50 relief appearances, with 56 strikeouts and 11 walks across 46 2/3 innings. This included a solid showing in the postseason, with a 2-0 record and a 2.19 ERA during nine relief appearances for the World Series-winning team.
Throughout his ten-year career in the majors, Treinen has an overall record of 43-34 with a 2.78 ERA over seven starts and 492 games in relief. He has played for the Washington Nationals (2014-2017), Oakland Athletics (2017-2019), and the Dodgers (2020-2024).
