THE HAGUE, Netherlands — On Tuesday, Dutch law enforcement announced the detention of three individuals potentially linked to the explosion and subsequent fire that resulted in the deaths of six people in an apartment complex over the past weekend.
Authorities have been exploring all potential causes of the tragic incident, and the recent arrests suggest that there may have been elements of criminal activity involved. The police indicated in their statement that further arrests could still take place in the ongoing investigation.
Details regarding the rationale behind these arrests were not disclosed, but the individuals are believed to have been “possibly involved” in the explosion. In addition, law enforcement officials confiscated several vehicles during their inquiry, although it remains uncertain whether any of these vehicles were the same ones that sped away from the explosion site shortly after the disastrous event.
The explosion occurred early Saturday morning in the northeastern area of Mariahoeve in The Hague, where residents reported hearing a loud blast followed by screams just before dawn. Rescue teams have continued to work at the location of the destroyed buildings, with efforts ongoing by authorities as of Tuesday.
