Rescuers discovered the remains of the final missing individual on Tuesday following a devastating explosion at a fuel depot in Italy’s Tuscany region, bringing the total fatalities to five, according to reports from local media.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, resulted in the collapse of an office building and left 14 individuals injured, with two of them in critical condition, as stated by Eugenio Giani, the governor of Tuscany.

The explosion took place at an ENI fuel depot located north of Florence, generating a large plume of dark smoke visible from a distance. Witnesses situated several kilometers away described hearing a loud bang accompanied by noticeable tremors.

Initially, local residents were advised to keep their windows shut, but subsequent assessments by environmental officials confirmed that the air quality posed no danger. The smoke from the explosion caused a temporary halt in regional train operations.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the explosion in Calenzano. Fortunately, firefighters were able to quickly manage the flames, preventing them from spreading to storage tanks near the area where the blast occurred.

Authorities in the nearby city of Prato have initiated legal inquiries into this tragic incident, seeking to uncover the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
