DALLAS — John Blundell from the commissioner’s office has been honored with the Robert O. Fishel Award for excellence in public relations.
Major League Baseball announced this recognition on Monday during the winter meetings.
This prestigious award is named after Robert O. Fishel, who had an impressive career as an executive with various teams including the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, New York Yankees, and also served in the American League office.
The selection of the award recipient is determined by a vote among former winners and officials from MLB.
Blundell, who holds the position of vice president of communications, has completed an impressive 26 seasons with Major League Baseball.
In his role, he is responsible for overseeing media operations and accreditation for key events such as the postseason, All-Star Game, as well as international and domestic special events.
His extensive planning and coordination experience spans numerous events held in countries including Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, China, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Before joining MLB, Blundell began his career in baseball with the New York Yankees, where he laid the groundwork for his future successes in the sport.
