LEXINGTON, Ky. — In a commanding performance on Monday night, the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats triumphed over Queens University with a score of 87-45, led by Georgia Amoore, who contributed 20 points, and Amelia Hassett, who added 19.
Amoore was instrumental in the game’s early stages, scoring nine points in the first quarter, helping Kentucky establish a dominant lead of 29-9. She showed her shooting prowess by sinking two of her three attempts from beyond the arc, while Queens struggled, finishing the quarter 0 for 3 from three-point range, and recorded a mere 25% shooting overall.
The Wildcats maintained their momentum, starting the second quarter with a 9-0 run to push their advantage to 38-9. Queens finally managed to score their first field goal of the second quarter with just over five minutes remaining in the half.
By halftime, Kentucky had a commanding 52-18 lead, fueled by combined contributions from Amoore, Hassett, and Clara Strack, who collectively accounted for 39 of the team’s first-half points. In stark contrast, Queens found themselves trailing by 34 points.
Kentucky maintained their dominance throughout the second half, leading by as much as 51 points at one point. In addition to Amoore and Hassett, Strack scored 16 points, while Teonni Key chipped in with 12 points for Kentucky, whose season record improved to 8-1. Notably, Hassett achieved a significant milestone by reaching 1,000 career points.
For Queens University, Jordyn Weaver stood out by scoring eight of her 11 points in the second quarter, with Ana Barreto contributing 10 points to the effort. However, the Royals struggled offensively, shooting only 26% from the field and being out-rebounded by a tally of 46-34.
Kentucky entered the game highly ranked in several national statistical categories, including blocks per game (9.4), field-goal percentage defense (31.8), defensive rebounds per game (31.0), assists-to-turnover ratio (1.5), and assists per game (18.9).
Both teams are set to return to action on Saturday, with Kentucky traveling to face Purdue and Queens hosting Western Carolina.
