BOSTON — In an exciting matchup on Sunday night, the Boston Fleet triumphed over the New York Sirens with a final score of 4-2. Megan Keller was instrumental in the victory, netting two crucial goals in the third period, while Susanna Tapani contributed with a goal and an assist.
Keller found the back of the net just over a minute into the third by seizing a loose puck and executing a precise wrist shot to take the lead at 3-2. She then sealed the game with another shot from long range with only 2:01 remaining. The Fleet began the match with signs of promise, and Aerin Frankel played a vital role in goal, making 25 saves throughout the game.
The scoring started early with Tapani putting Boston on the board at the 7:31 mark of the first period. However, New York’s Paetyn Levis answered back, scoring her first career goal just before the end of the first, making it 1-1. A power-play goal from Sydney Bard, scored with 43 seconds left in the opening period, allowed the Fleet to head into the second leading 2-1.
New York’s Abby Roque knotted the score up at 2-2 just before the mid-point of the second period, but Keller’s outstanding performance in the third ultimately led Boston to victory.
For New York, it is essential to address their scoring issues, particularly behind key players Alex Carpenter and the 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick Sarah Fillier, both of whom were unable to contribute significantly during this game.
Boston’s offensive resurgence was notable as they capitalized on crucial opportunities, contrasting their previous struggles.
A pivotal moment came early in the third period after a chaotic play in the corner, allowing Keller to find the puck in a prime scoring position, leading to her go-ahead goal.
Statistically, both Carpenter and Fillier, who had previously shone in the opening games of the season with a combined total of five goals and four assists, were limited to one assist each, failing to add to their tallies this time.
Looking ahead, the Fleet will host the Ottawa Charge on December 18, while the Sirens are scheduled to play their home opener against the Toronto Sceptres on the same day.
