BOSTON — In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, JB Frankel played a pivotal role by sinking three out of four free throws during the final moments, enabling Northeastern to narrowly defeat Colgate 78-75.
As the clock ticked down, Nicolas Louis-Jacques of the Raiders made three free throws with just seven seconds left, reducing the deficit to two points at 75-73. Frankel then converted one of his two attempts to extend the lead to three. After Jalen Cox made two free throws for Colgate, bringing the score to 76-75, Frankel clinched the victory by hitting both of his free throws in the closing seconds.
Rashad King was the standout performer for the Huskies (7-3), contributing 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Harold Woods also made a significant impact with 13 points and six boards, while Masai Troutman finished the game scoring 12 points, aided by a strong showing at the free-throw line, hitting 7 of 9 attempts despite having a shooting night of only 2 of 7 from the field.
For the Raiders (2-8), Brady Cummins was the leading scorer with 15 points. Moreover, Jalen Cox had a solid performance, contributing 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Louis-Jacques matched his output with another 14 points.
In the first half, King scored 10 points but Northeastern found themselves trailing at halftime, 32-28. The turning point came in the second half when Northeastern went on an impressive 15-2 scoring run, which allowed them to take a commanding lead at 62-52 with just under six minutes to play. King was especially effective in the latter half, amassing 13 points.
Looking ahead, Northeastern will take on Old Dominion on the road next Sunday, while Colgate is set to face Kentucky on Wednesday.
