EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — In a thrilling finish, Brian Bresee soared above the New York Giants’ offensive line to block a crucial field goal attempt with just 11 seconds remaining, securing a 14-11 win for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. This victory was significant for the Saints, especially as they faced adversity after losing quarterback Derek Carr to injury late in the game.

The defeat marked the eighth consecutive loss for the Giants, pulling them just one game away from matching their all-time record for losses in a row.

Carr, who had a strong performance with 20 completions on 31 attempts yielding 219 yards, suffered an injury with under four minutes left in the contest. While trying to secure a first down near the Saints’ 40-yard line, he fell hard and exited the game, putting the Saints in a precarious position.

With just 1:21 on the clock, the Giants regained possession at their own 27-yard line and mounted a drive that took them to the Saints’ 12-yard line. Quarterback Drew Lock made a pivotal fourth-down scramble for 25 yards and later connected with Malik Nabers for an additional 23 yards. With two attempts falling short of a touchdown, the Giants turned to kicker Graham Gano to attempt to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately for New York, Gano’s kick was blocked thanks to Bresee’s timely leap.

In the earlier stages of the game, Carr had connected with tight end Juwan Johnson for an 11-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter, while Kendre Miller initiated the scoring for New Orleans with an impressive 98-yard drive culminating in an 8-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. The Saints are now 5-8 for the season and have displayed a resurgence under interim head coach and New Jersey native Darren Rizzi, keeping their slim hopes alive in the NFC South division.
