Cataldi vows to score for injured teammate Bove, leads Fiorentina to their 8th consecutive victory.

ROME – Danilo Cataldi sent a message to his hospitalized Fiorentina teammate, Edoardo Bove, assuring him he would score during their match against Cagliari on Sunday, and he kept his word. The game ended with Fiorentina securing a 1-0 victory.

This match marked Fiorentina’s first Serie A encounter since Bove collapsed on the field during their previous game against Inter Milan, which ultimately led to him being placed in a medically induced coma. The 22-year-old player has shown signs of recovery, having been awake and alert since Monday, while doctors continue to assess what caused his sudden collapse.

Cataldi managed to find the top corner of the net midway through the first half, securing a vital win for Fiorentina. This victory also marked an impressive eighth consecutive win for the club in the Italian league, tying the record they set back in 1960.

Following his goal, Cataldi celebrated in a heartfelt manner; he rushed towards a TV camera, displayed four fingers in reference to Bove’s jersey number, and formed a heart symbol with his fingers as he exclaimed, “I told you. I told you.”

“I texted him before the match, saying: ‘Watch the game on TV because I’m going to score a goal into the top corner,’” Cataldi recalled, adding that Bove had replied, stating it was ‘impossible.’ He expressed his relief about Bove’s recovery and satisfaction with the three points obtained from the match.

With this win, Fiorentina managed to gain ground in the standings, drawing level on points with third-place Inter Milan. They remain three points behind Atalanta, which is on a remarkable nine-game winning streak, and just a point behind Napoli, who are set to host Lazio later with hopes of reclaiming the top spot in the standings.

In other match results, Empoli triumphed with a 4-1 victory over Hellas Verona, allowing them to climb to ninth place in the league.
