PARIS — In a thrilling encounter on Friday, Canadian forward Jonathan David showcased his skills by scoring twice and assisting another goal, leading Lille to a 3-1 victory over Brest. This win marked Lille’s impressive unbeaten streak, now at 10 games in Ligue 1.
The last time Lille suffered a home defeat against Brest dates back to 1989, a fact that contributed to the team’s confidence as they took to the pitch at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. David’s outstanding performance earned him the title of man-of-the-match early in the game. He put his team in front by converting a penalty just nine minutes into the match.
Just before halftime, he skillfully evaded his defender to set up teammate Hákon Haraldsson, who calmly slotted in the second goal for Lille. However, the second half saw a glimmer of hope for Brest when Ludovic Ajorque managed to score, narrowing the gap early on. But David was quick to respond, capitalizing on a defensive error to net his second goal of the match and restore Lille’s two-goal lead.
With these two goals, David has now tallied 17 goals in just 23 appearances this season, including 11 in Ligue 1, which positions him as the league’s top scorer. Lille’s performance has propelled them into a tie for second place alongside Marseille and Monaco, each with 26 points. They trail league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, who are set to face Auxerre later in the day.
