LONDON — Chelsea forward Sam Kerr is set to be out of action until at least February as she continues her recovery from a torn ACL, as stated by manager Sonia Bompastor on Friday.
The Australian national player suffered this injury last January while participating in Chelsea’s training camp in Morocco, leading to subsequent surgery shortly thereafter.
“We hope to see her back with the team around February or March, but not any earlier than that,” Bompastor commented during a press briefing. “She is currently focusing on her individual rehabilitation process, which will require at least another two to three months for her to regain full fitness and rejoin the squad.”
The 31-year-old Kerr has an impressive record, having netted 99 goals in 128 appearances for Chelsea. The team has been performing exceptionally well this season, maintaining a perfect record in both the Women’s Super League and the Women’s Champions League. Under Bompastor’s leadership in her debut season, the team has secured victories in all 12 of its matches.
Additionally, Bompastor mentioned that forward Lauren James is also facing an injury update, noting that she is expected to be out until January due to a calf issue.
