SAN FRANCISCO — Jonathan Kuminga delivered an impressive performance, scoring a personal best of 33 points, including two critical layups in the last minute of the game, helping the Golden State Warriors end a five-game losing streak with a victory over the Houston Rockets, finishing at 99-93 on Thursday night.
Andrew Wiggins contributed significantly with 23 points, and Brandin Podziemski stepped up on the boards, securing 12 rebounds for the Warriors during this home game, which kicked off a back-to-back set. Golden State was without two of its key players, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, due to injuries—Curry resting to alleviate knee pain and Green dealing with tightness in his left calf. Both players are expected to return for the following game.
Wiggins faced his own challenges, as he had been listed as questionable prior to the game due to an ankle impingement. For the Rockets, Alperen Sengun was the standout performer, recording 16 points and eight rebounds in the match. Dillon Brooks, often seen as a bother to the Warriors, started off poorly, making only one of his first six shots and missing four consecutive three-point attempts before finishing the game with 15 points.
In terms of disciplinary actions from their previous match, the Rockets had their coach Ime Udoka and Sengun fined due to their roles in ejections during a 120-111 loss to the Sacramento Kings earlier in the week. Udoka incurred a $50,000 penalty for using inappropriate language towards an official, not vacating the court promptly after his ejection, and for critiquing the referees publicly postgame. Additionally, Tari Eason was fined for an interaction with a fan after the game.
On the Warriors’ side, Kevon Looney made his second start of the season, providing solid support with 11 rebounds. Significant moments in the game included Wiggins hitting a three-pointer while getting fouled for a four-point play, tying the game at 40 with just over three minutes left in the first half. He capitalized on another four-point play just before halftime, allowing the Warriors to head into the break with a 49-43 advantage.
Statistically, the Warriors made their presence felt in the paint, scoring 52 points while also dominating the rebounding battle, finishing with a 54-45 advantage over the Rockets.
Looking ahead, the Rockets are set to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, while the Warriors will host the Minnesota Timberwolves for games on both Friday and Sunday.
