Boston has officially appointed Domenec Guasch, a former executive with FC Barcelona, as the inaugural general manager for its new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion team.
This team, which will be known as BOS Nation, is slated to commence its participation in the league in 2026, marking its entry as the 15th team within the NWSL.
Additionally, the league is anticipating the introduction of a 16th team before the year’s conclusion.
In assuming his role, Guasch faces the challenge of constructing a competitive roster without the aid of an expansion draft.
Recent changes to the NWSL’s collective bargaining agreement, established in September, have removed the options of both expansion and college drafts for teams looking to build their squads.
Guasch brings with him significant experience, having dedicated the past 13 years to FC Barcelona.
Over the last two years, he has managed the women’s football division, handling the intricacies of recruitment and contract discussions.
In a statement released Thursday, Guasch expressed his enthusiasm about the challenge ahead, saying, “The opportunity to build this team from the ground up is a challenge I fully embrace, and I’m eager to create a legacy that our fans and this city will celebrate for years to come.”
He also mentioned his excitement about the task of assembling both a talented coaching staff and a roster capable of competing at the highest level.
