RICHMOND, Va. — In an impressive performance, Max Shulga tallied 29 points, leading VCU to a decisive 89-54 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday evening.
Shulga’s shooting was remarkable as he made 7 of 10 attempts from the field, including an outstanding 6 of 8 from beyond the arc. He also contributed significantly from the free-throw line, sinking 9 of 12 shots. Supporting him was Phillip Russell, who added 17 points and recorded 4 of 9 from the floor, though he struggled with his three-point shooting at just 1 for 5, while managing to go a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. Alphonzo Billups III also made his presence felt, scoring 14 points with a shooting line of 5 of 8, including 4 of 5 from three-point range.
Eren Banks was a standout for the Eagles, finishing the game with 13 points and making two steals during the contest, though the Eagles’ overall effort fell short as they fell to a 5-4 record.
VCU established control of the game with just over four minutes left in the first half, taking a lead they would maintain for the remainder of the matchup.
