COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina is set to appoint Jeremiah Donati, the current athletic director at TCU, to take over the same position at their institution, according to a knowledgeable source who spoke on the condition of anonymity ahead of the official announcement.

The university’s Board of Trustees has arranged a meeting for Thursday, which is when Donati’s hiring is expected to be formalized.

Donati will succeed Ray Tanner, who has been the athletic director at South Carolina for many years. Tanner revealed in September that he would transition to a new role as a special advisor to university President Michael Amiridis upon the appointment of his replacement.

When announcing his decision to step down, Amiridis expressed the need for an athletic director with proven experience, a qualification that Donati possesses.

Having been appointed as TCU’s athletic director in December 2017, Donati oversaw significant achievements, including the football team’s participation in the national championship game, where they faced off against Georgia in 2022.

As Donati takes the helm at South Carolina, he steps into an athletic department that is currently performing exceptionally well.

Under the leadership of Dawn Staley, the Gamecock women’s basketball team has recently achieved their third national championship since 2017. Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team marked its return to the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time in seven years.

Additionally, the South Carolina football team enjoyed a successful season, finishing with a 9-3 record, capped off by a series of six consecutive victories, which included a notable win against rival Clemson with a score of 17-14 last Saturday.
