In Frisco, Texas, it has been announced that Tyler Seguin, a forward for the Dallas Stars, requires hip surgery which will sideline him for four to six months. This marks the second significant hip issue in the career of the 32-year-old player.
The Dallas Stars confirmed that Seguin is scheduled to undergo a procedure aimed at repairing both an impingement and the labrum in his left hip, with the surgery set to take place on Thursday.
Seguin previously faced a similar setback when he missed the majority of the 2020-2021 season after undergoing surgery on his right hip. Additionally, during that time, he also had arthroscopic surgery on his knee. In the 2020 playoffs held in Canada, Seguin attempted to manage hip pain while the Stars made a run to the Stanley Cup Finals but ultimately lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This season, Seguin managed to participate in 19 out of the first 23 games, amassing a total of 20 points, which includes nine goals and 11 assists. However, he was placed on injured reserve following a victory against Winnipeg where the Stars won 3-1.
After his last surgery on the right hip, Seguin played a full 81 games in the following season and remained active throughout Dallas’ playoff runs to the Western Conference Finals over the past two seasons.
Beginning his career with a Stanley Cup victory with Boston in the 2010-11 season, Seguin played two additional seasons with the Bruins before being traded to the Stars in 2013.
Throughout his initial six years with Dallas, he maintained an impressive average of 34 goals and 43 assists per season, culminating in a substantial eight-year contract extension worth $78.8 million that he signed in 2019. With two years remaining on this contract, his future with the team hangs in the balance due to this latest injury setback.
