NEW YORK — It’s that time of year again when Spotify Wrapped is revealed, and for the second consecutive year, Taylor Swift has taken the title of most-played artist on the platform.
On Wednesday, Spotify shared its yearly overview of listening preferences, showcasing individual trends alongside global statistics. Users now have the opportunity to explore their top artists, songs, genres, albums, and podcasts, while discovering which musicians had an outstanding year on the platform.
In 2024, Swift dominated the global streaming charts, accumulating over 26.6 billion streams. Following her were The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish, in that sequence.
In the United States, the rankings are strikingly similar, with Swift once again at the forefront, trailed closely by Drake, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, and Kanye West.
Last year, Swift rose to prominence, unseating reggaetón star Bad Bunny who held the top position for three consecutive years starting in 2020.
In addition to her artist accolades, Swift also captured the title for the most-streamed album of 2024 with “The Tortured Poets Department.” She was followed by Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet,” Karol G’s “Mañana Será Bonito,” and Ariana Grande’s “eternal sunshine.”
Except for Karol G’s earlier release, all other albums are fresh entries for this year.
In the U.S. market, only slight variations arise: Swift’s album again leads the charts, followed by Wallen’s widely popular “One Thing At A Time,” Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet,” Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season,” and Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” released last year.
Sabrina Carpenter’s track “Espresso” emerged as the most-streamed song globally and in the U.S., achieving over 1.6 billion streams.
On the global stage, Carpenter is followed by Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” and collaborations by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ’s “Gata Only,” alongside Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control.”
In the U.S., she is followed by Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help,” and Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby.”
This year, Spotify Wrapped introduced several new features, including an engaging data story titled “Your Music Evolution,” which outlines three unique musical phases for each user, as well as a personalized playlist. The “Your Top Artist” feature has seen slight modifications, now showcasing “Longest Listening Streak” along with the traditional “Top Listeners.”
It’s no surprise that the most recognized global artists have clinched top spots on Spotify Wrapped, as they enjoy significant visibility on the streaming service and maintain loyal fan bases. For independent artists, achieving a position on the global chart would necessitate billions of streams.
Streaming now represents a major revenue source for the music industry, accounting for an impressive 84% in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America, and 67.3% worldwide, as reported by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry in 2024.
As the largest platform in the industry, Spotify secures about 31% of the total market share, boasting 626 million users and 246 million subscribers across more than 180 markets.
