Palestinian medical sources reported that an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals, including four children, on Wednesday.
The Awda Hospital, which treated the victims, indicated that the five were outside makeshift shelters in the densely populated Nuseirat refugee camp, situated in central Gaza.
The hospital also noted that approximately 15 others were injured in the attack, with most of the wounded being children.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Israeli military regarding this incident.
In a separate development, tensions remain high in Lebanon, where a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has largely persisted despite Israeli forces conducting multiple drone and artillery attacks on Tuesday, which resulted in the death of a shepherd in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to respond decisively to any Hezbollah violations of the ceasefire, emphasizing that Israel will act “with an iron fist.”
Hezbollah has engaged in various attacks on Israel since last year, including the use of rockets and drones, in solidarity with Hamas militants active in Gaza.
The conflict in Gaza escalated dramatically after Hamas militants launched an incursion into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in the fatalities of approximately 1,200 individuals, predominantly civilians, and the abduction of around 250 others, many of whom are believed to be held in Gaza.
The ongoing Israeli military campaign has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 44,500 Palestinians in Gaza, with over half of those being women and children, according to figures provided by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The ministry has not disclosed how many of the deceased were combatants.
In contrast, Israel claims to have eliminated over 17,000 militants but has not substantiated these assertions with evidence.
The conflict has devastated extensive regions of the Gaza Strip, displacing approximately 90% of its 2.3 million residents, with many experiencing displacement multiple times.
Additionally, it has been reported that Israel’s military returned the bodies of two militants who had illegally entered Israeli territory from Jordan in October and shot two Israeli soldiers.
These militants crossed into Israel near the Dead Sea on October 18, where they attacked and injured two soldiers before being killed by Israeli forces.
While Hamas acknowledged the incident, they did not take responsibility for the attack.
The Israeli military has not disclosed the identities of the attackers involved in this incident.
