LOS ANGELES — In a historic moment for both programs, Tyler Bilodeau and Sebastian Mack each contributed 16 points as UCLA triumphed over Washington, 69-58, during their inaugural Big Ten Conference matchup on Tuesday night.
Dylan Andrews played a pivotal role, scoring 12 points, and gave UCLA the lead for the remainder of the game with a layup at 12:50 in the first half. This play triggered a 12-0 scoring run, putting UCLA ahead at 23-12 after Aday Mara’s layup concluded the streak roughly three and a half minutes later. Although Washington made a push by scoring the next nine points and narrowing the gap, UCLA held strong despite a scoreless stretch of over six minutes.
Mekhi Mason’s three-pointer brought Washington closer at 45-43 with just 11 minutes to go, but UCLA responded immediately. Eric Dailey Jr. scored in the lane, followed by three-point plays from both Bilodeau and Mack, and a subsequent three-pointer by Andrews. This sequence propelled UCLA to a commanding 13-point lead just two minutes later.
For Washington, Great Osobor was a standout performer, finishing the game with 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, although he struggled with eight turnovers. Tyler Harris added 12 points alongside 11 rebounds.
The loss ended Washington’s five-game winning streak, which included a victory over Santa Clara in the Acrisure Invitational championship last Friday, where they won 79-69.
Historically, Washington has struggled against UCLA in Los Angeles, winning only eight times in 78 encounters. Their last victory at Pauley Pavilion dates back to 2016, although they did manage to defeat the Bruins 94-77 in Seattle last season, thus breaking a nine-game losing streak against them.
UCLA came into this matchup boasting the top scoring defense in the nation, allowing only 52.4 points per game.
