Rescue teams find remains of Wisconsin woman who disappeared in 2020

MADISON, Wis. — Authorities have confirmed the discovery of the remains of a woman from Wisconsin who had been missing for over four years.
The state’s Department of Justice revealed that the body of Cassandra Ayon was located on private land in Brighton, Marathon County, this past Saturday.
Ayon was last spotted in October 2020, driving away from a mobile home park in Unity at the age of 27.

In June 2022, a jury found Jesus Contreras-Perez of Mosinee guilty on charges of first-degree intentional homicide, concealing a corpse, and stalking that resulted in bodily harm, all linked to Ayon’s case.
He received a life sentence in September 2022 following the verdict.
Ayon and Contreras-Perez had been in a relationship and shared a son before their breakup took place shortly before her disappearance, as reported by local news station WSAW-TV during his sentencing.

Friends of Ayon disclosed to investigators that she had expressed concerns about getting threats and being stalked by Contreras-Perez.
In response to the charges, Contreras-Perez maintained his innocence throughout the court proceedings, claiming that he was unfairly targeted by investigators.
