The standout player for Week 4 in men’s college basketball has been named, and it is Johni Broome from Auburn.
The impressive 6-foot-10, 240-pound fifth-year senior and preseason All-American has made a substantial impact early in the season, particularly leading the No. 2 ranked Tigers to victory in the Maui Invitational.
Broome’s averages of 21.7 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.0 blocks over victories against Iowa State, North Carolina, and Memphis earned him the Maui MVP title.
His performance started with a strong double-double, achieving 21 points alongside 10 rebounds for a thrilling last-second win over the then-fifth-ranked Cyclones.
Following that, he delivered an outstanding display against the then-12th ranked Tar Heels, recording 23 points and an impressive 19 rebounds—marking the highest rebound count among Division I players for the week—along with five assists and three blocks.
To cap off his impressive Maui run, he totaled 21 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks against another ranked opponent.
In the runner-up position is Dylan Harper from Rutgers.
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound guard lived up to the hype surrounding him as one of the nation’s elite freshmen.
He kicked off the Players Era Festival with an explosive performance, scoring 36 points while adding six rebounds and six assists in an overtime victory over Notre Dame.
He then followed it up with 37 points against then-ninth-ranked Alabama, showcasing some of the highest single-game scoring of the week in Division I.
According to Rutgers statistics, Harper is the first freshman in the last two decades of Division I to achieve back-to-back games with over 35 points.
He concluded his tournament with 18 points in a setback against then-20th ranked Texas A&M.
Honorable mentions include Chucky Hepburn from Louisville, Tyrese Hunter from Memphis, and Javon Small from West Virginia, all of whom have demonstrated notable performances.
Also noteworthy is Jevon Porter from Loyola Marymount, a 6-foot-11 junior who transferred from Pepperdine.
He was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Lions to victory in the Cancun Challenge’s Riviera Division.
In a significant performance that earned him MVP honors, Porter scored 29 points, secured seven rebounds, and registered four blocks in a win over Wyoming.
Last season at Pepperdine, Porter averaged 16.2 points and had the distinction of being a WCC All-Freshman team member.
This week’s achievements highlight the exceptional talent emerging early in the college basketball season and set the stage for what promises to be an exciting year.
