Kansas City Royals strike deal with Diamond Sports Group for game broadcasts to proceed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals confirmed they have finalized a deal with Diamond Sports Group to broadcast their games for the upcoming season.

The Royals are among four teams in Major League Baseball that hold ownership stakes in their regional sports network.

Starting next season, games will be featured on the FanDuel Sports Network Kansas City. This change comes after FanDuel took over the naming rights for the 16 regional sports networks owned by Diamond last month, following a previous partnership with Bally that began in March 2021.

Last season, the Royals and Diamond introduced a streaming service that gained a substantial following, amassing more than 40,000 subscribers.

Recently, Diamond Sports Group had its bankruptcy reorganization plan greenlit, and it currently maintains broadcasting agreements with seven MLB teams through the 2025 season. In addition to the Royals, Diamond will showcase games for the Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays.

Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers, whose agreement with Diamond lapsed in October, are exploring alternative broadcasting options for the next season after opting out of another partnership with Diamond.

In addition to Major League Baseball, Diamond holds broadcasting rights for 13 NBA teams and eight NHL teams, expanding its presence across multiple professional sports leagues.
