PARIS — Olympic ice dancing stars Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron announced their retirement from the sport on Tuesday, concluding illustrious careers filled with remarkable achievements.
The French duo, who made their mark on the figure skating world, set a new world record as they claimed the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics just two years ago.
At 29 years old, Papadakis, and Cizeron, who is 30, also secured an Olympic silver medal in addition to their five world championship titles and five European championship titles.
In a heartfelt joint statement released on Tuesday, the champions expressed, “We could never have dreamed of a better career. It’s with immense gratitude that we’ve decided to turn the page. An immense thanks to our supporters for the pleasure shared with us on the ice.”
The pair further enhanced their impressive legacy by winning the Grand Prix Final two times, and they were widely recognized for their innovative and technically flawless routines, which captivated audiences throughout their career.
