CHICAGO — A tragic incident unfolded during a house gathering in Chicago on Monday, resulting in eight individuals being shot, three of whom have died from their injuries. Witnesses reported chaos as attendees fled from the scene amid the gunfire, which broke out in the southwest Chicago Lawn area around 2:10 PM.
According to Jon Hein, the Chief of Patrol for the Chicago Police, the victims included four men and four women aged between 20 and 35. Among them, a 26-year-old man and two other men were declared dead at the scene. Also critically injured was a 27-year-old woman who suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A 24-year-old woman who was shot multiple times, sustaining six wounds, was reported to be in serious condition at a local hospital. Additional victims included two men aged 31 and 25, as well as a 21-year-old woman, all of whom were in stable condition following treatment.
Hein confirmed that this was not the first police response to incidents at the residence, as local resident El Towers noted that the property is frequently used for parties. Towers recounted hearing a series of at least 10 gunshots and the subsequent panic as people raced away from the home, screaming during the chaos.
As for the assailants, no specific details regarding their identities or the motive behind the shooting have been disclosed, and they remain at large as of Monday evening. “We are committed to solving this crime and identifying those who are responsible for this horrifying incident,” Hein assured the media present at the scene.
As of Tuesday morning, the Chicago Police had not released further information regarding the investigation, indicating the situation remains serious and ongoing.
