Maresca claims Chelsea could ‘lead’ English football in the next decade following $1 billion investment.

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, expresses confidence that the club has the potential to “dominate” English football in the years to come.
On Tuesday, the coach reiterated his stance that, despite Chelsea currently holding third place in the Premier League and sharing the same points as second-place Arsenal, they shouldn’t be considered serious contenders for the title, especially as they trail behind Liverpool by nine points.

Nonetheless, Maresca is optimistic about the club’s future, emphasizing the promise he sees within the squad.
“What I shared with the owners and sporting director during our initial meeting remains unchanged,” he stated.
Since joining Chelsea in June, he has maintained that, due to the youthful talent and potential of the squad, the club is poised to be a leading force in English football in the next five to ten years.
“This is what I declared to the club from the moment I arrived, regardless of who the manager will be.”

Chelsea has invested significantly, exceeding $1 billion in acquiring around 40 players over five transfer windows, following the club’s purchase by a consortium led by Todd Boehly of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Clearlake Capital, which took over from former owner Roman Abramovich for $3.2 billion in May 2022.
Many of these acquisitions are youthful talents, including 23-year-olds Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez, and Moises Caicedo, in addition to 22-year-old Cole Palmer.

Maresca is the fourth manager to take the reins under the new ownership and is the first to see consistent performance from this newly formed squad.
Chelsea boasts a record of seven wins and two losses in their 13 Premier League matches, with defeats only to the reigning champions Manchester City and Liverpool.

Yet, Maresca believes Chelsea still has some way to go before being compared to teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, asserting that his comments are not merely a strategy to relieve pressure on his players.
“Arsenal has been competitive over the last two years, being close to City, while we have been quite far from them,” he remarked, in response to questions about why Chelsea should have lower expectations.
“Being in the title race provides a pleasant kind of pressure for me and my players. It’s the type that motivates rather than overwhelms. But currently, that isn’t our reality.”

Looking ahead, Chelsea is set to face off against Southampton, who sit at the bottom of the table, while Arsenal will host Manchester United, and Liverpool will take on Newcastle away from home.
