SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines faced significant operational challenges on Monday morning due to a technology malfunction, prompting the temporary suspension of flights in Seattle and ongoing difficulties for passengers attempting to book flights via its website.

The airline, headquartered in Seattle, acknowledged in a statement that the issue led to a major disruption in its operations, resulting in numerous delayed flights. To manage the situation, Alaska Airlines announced a 40-minute ground halt at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to alleviate congestion among aircraft.

Details regarding the specific nature of the technology issue remained undisclosed, leaving the origins of the disruptions unclear.

By Monday afternoon, the airline’s website displayed a notice indicating that travelers were experiencing persistent issues with booking flights, both online and through their mobile app, as well as at its customer service center.

“We sincerely apologize to our guests who are impacted and are working diligently to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the airline stated.

The timing of these complications was particularly challenging as it coincided with the launch of Alaska Airlines’ Cyber Monday flight sale. In responses to customer complaints about delays, missed flights, and problems with the airline’s app and website, social media representatives for the airline extended apologies.

This incident echoed a similar situation in late September when Alaska Airlines faced grounding of flights in Seattle due to significant operational disruptions linked to an unspecified technology problem.
