HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M has officially parted ways with head football coach Connell Maynor after a seven-year tenure, the announcement being made on Monday by athletic director Paul A. Bryant.

This past season, the Bulldogs ended with a 6-6 record, achieving a 4-4 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and managed a commendable three-game winning streak before concluding the season with a loss to Florida A&M.

During his time at Alabama A&M, Maynor accumulated a total record of 40 wins against 32 losses, which included a solid 28-21 record in SWAC play.

One of the standout achievements of Maynor’s career at Alabama A&M came during the spring 2021 season when he led the team to its first SWAC championship in 15 years. The Bulldogs completed that season undefeated at 5-0 and triumphed over Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a score of 40-33, marking the program’s second SWAC football title.

Maynor, who has a background in the Arena Football League, previously showcased his skills as a quarterback at both Winston-Salem State and North Carolina A&T.

The program faced a heartbreaking incident recently with the death of linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr., who passed away last week following an injury incurred during the annual Magic City Classic against rival Alabama State on October 26.

As Alabama A&M embarks on a new chapter in its football program, the search for a new head coach will begin to guide the team toward future successes.
