The Los Angeles Rams have officially acquired cornerback Emmanuel Forbes through waivers from the Washington Commanders.
The announcement was made on Monday, and in order to accommodate Forbes on the roster, the Rams released undrafted rookie defensive back Charles Woods.
Forbes, who was selected as the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, was let go by Washington on Saturday, marking yet another disappointing outcome for first-round draft picks during the tenure of former head coach Ron Rivera.
As a first-year player, Forbes started in 10 games; however, he found himself benched as the season progressed, and his participation diminished significantly after a coaching change with Dan Quinn this season.
Despite his talent at Mississippi State, Forbes was often viewed as undersized for a top-tier NFL defensive back, and his performance did little to dispel that view.
In an effort to bolster their struggling pass defense, the Rams have decided to take a chance on Forbes.
Darious Williams, a former member of the Rams’ Super Bowl-winning team who returned to Los Angeles this season, has shown promise as their top cover corner, though he faced difficulties during the team’s recent win against New Orleans.
Additionally, Cobie Durant, now in his third year, has been a starter for all 12 games this season, with one interception to his name.
The Rams previously trade Tre’Davious White, another key offseason acquisition at cornerback, after the former Pro Bowler did not meet expectations, moving him to Baltimore in exchange for a seventh-round pick swap last month.
In his time with the Rams, Woods has participated in nine games, primarily contributing on special teams.
Looking ahead, the Rams are set to host the Buffalo Bills this coming Sunday.
