TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State’s star wide receiver, Jordyn Tyson, will miss Saturday’s Big 12 championship game against No. 16 Iowa State due to an undisclosed injury.
Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham announced on Monday that Tyson is out for an indefinite period after sustaining an injury during the second half of Arizona State’s dominant 49-7 victory over Arizona last weekend.
“I don’t want to provide a specific timeline, such as a complete three- or four-month estimate, but I can confirm he will be out for an indefinite stretch,” Dillingham stated.
Tyson’s injury occurred in the third quarter when he fell hard on his left side following a tackle. After the game, he was seen leaving the stadium with a sling on his injured arm.
Last season, Tyson had limited participation as he was still rehabilitating from a knee injury he sustained while playing for Colorado the previous year. However, he has made a significant impact this season, leading the Sun Devils with 75 receptions, accumulating 1,101 yards, and scoring 10 touchdowns. Prior to his injury during the game against Arizona, Tyson recorded eight receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown.
As Arizona State prepares for the championship, the absence of their top receiver will certainly be felt as they look to secure a win against a tough opponent like Iowa State. The coaching staff will need to strategize accordingly to fill the gap left by Tyson and ensure that the team’s offensive capabilities remain strong.
