GRENOBLE, France — The reigning world pairs champions, Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps from Canada, have unfortunately announced their withdrawal from the esteemed Grand Prix Final. The decision was made on Monday, as Deschamps is currently recovering from an illness, rendering him unable to participate in the event.

Stepping in for the Canadian duo are the Italian pair, Rebecca Ghilardi and Filippo Ambrosini. The Grand Prix Final is set to commence on Thursday at the Patinoire Polesud, featuring the pairs short program. The competition will culminate with the pairs free skate on Friday night where the medals will be awarded.

This event is known for being a significant indicator of the forthcoming world championship, which will be held in March in Boston. Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps were considered strong contenders for the Grand Prix Final despite missing this opportunity. The competition showcases the top six skaters or pairs from various disciplines, effectively concluding the Grand Prix season with a thrilling finale.

Last year, Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps finished in third place at the Grand Prix Final and have shown strong performances this season, including victories at the Grand Prix of Finland and a successful title defense at Skate Canada in front of their home crowd.

Meanwhile, Ghilardi and Ambrosini have also demonstrated their capabilities by securing third place at both the Grand Prix of Finland and the Grand Prix de France earlier this season. Their performance at the Grand Prix Final will be one to watch as they look to make a mark in the absence of the reigning champions.
