TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Zaay Green showcased an impressive performance with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, while Essence Cody contributed significantly with 13 points and 11 rebounds as the No. 19 ranked Alabama team triumphed over Georgia State with a score of 98-49 on Monday night.
The game commenced with Georgia State gaining an early advantage by scoring 11 of the first 15 points. However, Green quickly shifted momentum by netting the first four points in a subsequent 15-0 scoring spree that placed Alabama ahead for good. Karly Weathers extended the lead with a timely 3-pointer at 3:27 remaining in the second quarter, ensuring Alabama maintained a comfortable edge, leading 50-27 by halftime.
As the second half unfolded, Cody initiated an 18-2 run for Alabama by scoring the first six points, while Georgia State struggled significantly, managing only 1 out of 10 shooting from the field during that stretch.
Alabama (9-0) had near double-double efforts from Sarah Ashlee Barker and Eris Lester, with Barker contributing 12 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, whereas Lester finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Additionally, Aaliyah Nye also scored 11 points. The Crimson Tide excelled at the free-throw line, sinking 21 of their 23 attempts.
Mikyla Tolivert was the standout for Georgia State (5-4), leading her team with 10 points. The Panthers faced significant challenges on the boards, being out-rebounded 65-22, which included a staggering 25-4 differential in offensive rebounds.
