NEW YORK — The Golden Globes have announced that Ted Danson, famous for his role on the beloved sitcom “Cheers,” will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award in 2025.
Danson, a recipient of three Golden Globe awards, first gained widespread recognition playing the charming bartender Sam Malone on NBC’s “Cheers.” He has since made notable appearances in a variety of television shows, including “The Good Place,” “Mr. Mayor,” “Fargo,” “CSI,” “CSI: Cyber,” “Damages,” and “Becker.” Currently, he stars in Netflix’s “A Man on the Inside.”

Established in 2019, the Carol Burnett Award honors individuals who have significantly contributed to television, both in front of and behind the camera. Previous honorees include notable figures such as Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, and Ellen DeGeneres, with Carol Burnett being the inaugural recipient.
Helen Hoehne, the president of the Golden Globes, expressed admiration for Danson, stating, “Ted Danson has entertained audiences for decades with his iconic performances that will forever be ingrained in television history. His renowned career is a testament to his remarkable talent and versatility as an actor and bears resemblance to the award’s legendary namesake.”
In addition to his television work, Danson has a diverse film portfolio including titles like “Hearts Beat Loud,” “Three Men and a Baby,” and Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed World War II film “Saving Private Ryan.” Beyond acting, he is recognized for his commitment to environmental activism, having co-founded the American Oceans Campaign.
