KYIV, Ukraine — German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made his first official visit to Ukraine in over two and a half years on Monday.
This visit follows recent criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed discontent regarding Scholz’s recent phone discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The timing of their conversation raised questions amid uncertainty about the potential implications of the incoming administration under President-elect Donald Trump for Ukraine.

During his meeting with Zelenskyy, Scholz is expected to announce additional military assistance for Ukraine, amounting to 650 million euros this month.
“Ukraine can count on Germany — we follow through on our commitments,” Scholz stated, reinforcing his country’s support.
The promise of enhanced military supplies signifies Germany’s continued commitment to assist Ukraine during a critical time.
