The New York Mets have reinforced their pitching lineup by signing Frankie Montas, a seasoned right-handed pitcher, to a two-year contract valued at $34 million.

This agreement was confirmed by a source familiar with the discussions, who wished to remain anonymous as the deal remains contingent upon Montas passing a physical examination. Montas, now 31 years old, is set to receive $17 million for each year of the contract, with an option to opt-out after the 2025 season.

In the recent 2023 season, Montas recorded a 7-11 win-loss record coupled with a 4.84 ERA, striking out 148 batters across 150 and 2/3 innings over 30 starts. He finished with a performance of 3-3 and a 4.55 ERA in 11 starts following his trade to the Milwaukee Brewers just prior to the trade deadline, after having previously pitched for the Cincinnati Reds.

Earlier last month, Montas chose to decline his portion of a mutual option set at $20 million, which resulted in him receiving a $2 million buyout.
