LINCOLN, Neb. — In a dominant display, Connor Essegian set a personal record with six 3-pointers for the second consecutive game as Nebraska secured a commanding 103-72 victory over North Florida on Sunday. This game served as the Cornhuskers’ final preparation before embarking on their Big Ten Conference season.
Essegian’s impressive performance included a new career-best of 29 points, having previously achieved this against South Dakota, where he made 6 of 15 attempts from the three-point line in a 96-79 win. In the matchup against North Florida, he exhibited even greater accuracy, making 6 out of 8 from beyond the arc, totaling 22 points.
The game began with Nate Lliteras sinking a 3-pointer within the first minute, giving North Florida an early edge. However, Brice Williams quickly responded with his own three-pointer, and Essegian contributed a layup followed by his first 3-pointer, igniting a remarkable 20-1 run that put Nebraska in complete control.
Nebraska showcased their offensive prowess by shooting 40 of 69 from the field, marking their best offensive performance for the second game in a row. Juwan Gary played a crucial role with 18 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. Meanwhile, Williams added 17 points along with six assists. Andrew Morgan contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, and Ahron Ulis chipped in with 10 points coming off the bench.
North Florida’s offense was led by Lliteras, who netted 17 points on 4 of 7 shooting from three-point range. Jasai Miles added 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Jaylen Smith contributed 12 points and six assists. Liam Murphey rounded out the scoring for North Florida with 10 points and five rebounds from the bench.
The Cornhuskers will kick off their Big Ten Conference campaign on Saturday against Michigan State.
