West Virginia University has parted ways with football head coach Neal Brown following a disappointing season for the Mountaineers in the Big 12 Conference.

Athletic director Wren Baker made the announcement, expressing his best wishes for Brown and his family in their future pursuits.

This past season, Brown led the team to a 6-6 record, bringing his overall performance over six years to 37 wins and 35 losses. However, his tenure was marked by a lack of significant success, as his squads never made a serious run for the Big 12 championship nor achieved a ranking in the AP Top 25 poll.

Additionally, the team faced struggles against ranked rivals, suffering nine consecutive defeats against such opponents.

As part of his departure, Brown will receive a hefty buyout totaling $9.5 million, which covers the remaining three years of his contract.

The university will now begin its search for a new head coach to revitalize the football program and aim for a more successful future in the competitive landscape of college football.
